QUOTES OF THE WEEK
Grief can take care of itself, but to get the full value of joy you must have somebody to divide it with.
Mark Twain
In its own, quiet, embarrassed way..... the Anglican religion goes on maintaining churches that it cannot fill but which keep patient vigil in the countryside, awaiting the Prodigal's return. ....The old Prayer Book tells us that ‘we are his people and the sheep of his pasture', and that we have erred and strayed from his ways like lost sheep. Its language and thought are pastoral, and its message of redemption is also a covert affirmation of the rural life from which we have been sundered. That is why country churches have such appeal to the modern traveller, who steps for a moment form his car, creaks open the wooden door, and sniffs that curious smell of dried flowers and polished brass which is the smell of God at home in England..... Roger Scruton “News from Somewhere”
What do you get if you cross a Jehovah’s Witness with an atheist?
Someone who knocks on your door for nothing.
CHEESY
A new Australian lady entered a tram and sat next to a Salvation Army lass. She turned to the Salvo and said, ‘Scuse, please. You are vearink a uniform. Vot is it? The Salvation Army girl said, “I work for the Lord Jesus.” “Very interesting,” said the new Aussie. “I’m a verkent for the Kraft cheeses.
Grace: Nathan & Lil’s Wedding
Elizabeth’s beloved mama
As well as me, her old papa,
Thank God their effervescent Lil
Has married not some dolt or dill,
Some poxy prat, some grim galah
But six feet five of fun McGrath.
Bidding “Neaum” au revoir
To be forever, Lil McGrath.
And Verna, Nathan’s loved mama
With John as well, his dear papa
Thank the Lord, that with savoir
Their Nathan’s picked a Neaum star
And not some flighty, fool galah
His life to share. It’s better far
To bid Miss Neaum au revoir
Than miss being Mrs Lil McGrath.
Indeed, we all, without exception,
Thank you Lord at this Reception
In honour of a bride and groom
Whose mutual love we all assume
Will deepen, strengthen, flourish, bloom,
As well as widen, making room
For small McGraths, both girls and boys
To fill their life with joys and noise.
And thanks for friends from near and far
Who’ve come by train and plane and car
To celebrate this dancing day
In Lil and Nathan’s chosen way,
With sparkling booze and hearty food,
With joyful atmosphere and mood,
And jokes and dancing, burps and roars
Of happy laughter and applause;
For this, for that, for all and such,
Thank you, Father, very much! Amen. A.N.
HYPOCRISY
A man may cry “Church! Church!” at every word.
With no more piety than other people -
A crow’s not reckoned a religious bird
Because it keeps a-cawing from a steeple.
Thomas Hood “Ode to Rae Wilson, Esq”
The only vice that cannot be forgivien is hypocrisy. The repentance of a hypocrite is itself hypocrisy. William Hazlitt
I am a hypocrite. I am a great believer in hypocrisy. It is the nearest we ever get to virtue. It is a statement of what we ought to be. Like religion, like art, like the law, like marriage, I serve the appearance of things. John le Carre
There are people who laugh to show their fine teeth; and there are those who cry to show their good hearts. Joseph Roux
JUDGEMENT
God does not care
What good you did
But why you did it.
He does not grade the fruit
But probes the core
And tests the root.
Angelus Silesius

WELCOME
Welcome to any visitors or friends with us today for “Bring a Friend” Sunday. We hope you enjoy your worship in Shepparton’s loveliest church. A special welcome at the 10.30am service to Adrian Parsons, who is jazzing up the music for us, with the help of Victoria and Christine. We hope to have much more of this.
SHARE LUNCH
There is a Bring and Share lunch today for those of a sociable disposition. Stay on and enjoy the company.
SOLID JOY AND LASTING PLEASURES
Paul Dalzell, one of the brighter sparks of the diocesan clergy, is hosting a second Lay Training Day to do with Evangelism and the Catechumenate in Benalla next Saturday. We need to get the names of folk intending to participate to him by Tuesday. Please let the clergy know if you can go. It should be an interesting day and to the good of our parish. There is further information in the Narthex.
ROLLER DOOR
There is a fine new roller door over the hall kitchen hatchway. Many thanks to Sandra Simonis and her team for financing this necessary improvement to what is now a very fine facility.
VISITATION
Those who took part in the visitation of the Children’s Church families please return any information to the office this week. We need to process it.
GARDEN WORKING BEE
There is the usual beginning of the week Garden Working Bee on Saturday the 6th May. All are welcome.
MEN’S BREAKFAST
There is a Men’s Breakfast on May the 13th, sign up for it in the Narthex please.
HEATHER AWAY
Heather Camm is working this Tues, and then goes away for one week’s leave. Volunteers will be manning the office for some of the time.
WELCOMERS AND SIDESMEN
Any Welcomers or Sidesmen in doubt as to what their duties are need only to look on the back of their roster where some fine fellow has printed them.
SOIREE MEETING TUESDAY
Anyone interested in organising or participating in the Soiree should meet with the Rector and John Griffin this Tuesday at 10.00am in the library.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The first of the training sessions for those who wish to be a part of the referral service that is being started by the Social Responsibilities Group is on Thursday 11th of May from 1.00pm to 4.00pm. Anyone interested in being a part of this invaluable project and so interested in the training sessions, have a word with the clergy, Heather Pearson, Andrea Fisher, Charlotte Brewer, or Heather Camm. We hope that most of those who help in the Office on Mondays will volunteer. We have a large number of requests for help from all sorts of people, not only for food, and we hope to be able to refer truly needy folk to expert counsellors and advisors who have offered their services to us for nothing or at cut rates.
FINE MUSIC
On Saturday 13th May at 7.30pm the Turaton Music Company presents: Australia: Land of the Rainbow Gold - The Songs and Stories of Australia in our hall cost is $15.00 per person which includes a delicious supper. Their presentation last year was truly excellent, so do support this function which through Turaton’s generosity also supports us.
